Snyder, TX: Barbara Leatherwood, the current Director of Marketing, Business Retention & Expansion for the Development Corporation of Snyder (DCOS) has been promoted to Executive Director effective August 1, 2022.

The Snyder City Council voted to approve Leatherwood as the new Executive Director at their meeting on July 11.  The Board of Directors for DCOS requested that City Council hold this vote after the Board had unanimously approved Leatherwood during their June meeting.

Doug Dowler, the current Executive Director for DCOS, announced his plans to retire at April’s board meeting due to recent health issues. His resignation is effective at the end of July.

“I’m confident Barbara will do an excellent job at moving Snyder forward,” said Dowler. “Barbara loves this community, and she embodies the mission and vision of the DCOS. Barbara is the best person for this role, and I know I speak for everyone at the DCOS and the board when I say we were proud to offer her this promotion.”

Leatherwood has been instrumental in the progress DCOS has made over the past year and a half. She spearheaded the DCOS rebranding initiative, has worked tirelessly to elevate Snyder businesses, launched a small business training program, and more. She has also been conversing with a significant number of businesses and commercial real estate brokers who have shown an interest in Snyder.

“Thanks to Doug’s mentorship, I am confident that I can continue to elevate Snyder as the new Executive Director,” said Leatherwood. “I’m excited about new programs we’re working on and some of the conversations we’ve been having with businesses interested in coming to Snyder.”

Leatherwood says her primary focus is to not only increase the number of prospective businesses exploring Snyder as they consider moving or expanding to Texas but to continue the local business support we have provided over the past couple of years. She also mentioned an increased emphasis on providing workforce support and training to Snyder moving forward.

“We already put Snyder on the regional map,” said Leatherwood. “I’m ready to see us compete at the state and national levels for incoming businesses all while increasing the support for our local businesses.”
